Under new pricing scheme, free quota offered by Google, will quickly consumed away by JStock users from all around the world, within few hours!!!
The below screen shoot explains what is going on.
As you can see, under old pricing scheme offered by Google, JStock's Cloud Storage service can run free of charge, within a single day, on Google server.
However, under new pricing scheme, this is how it looks like just after a few hours.
Currently, we are still figuring out, how we can make this cloud storage feature FREE always.
- Switching to another service provider? But which service provider does provide free cloud storage, for an open source project?
- Monetary support from JStock users? http://jstock.sourceforge.net/donation.html

For temporary workaround, you may import and your data in Microsoft Excel format or CSV format as shown below. Just go to File -> Save as...
Besides import and export using Microsoft Excel/ CSV format, you may also perform backup, by perform copying operation on .jstock folder as described here : http://jstock.sourceforge.net/help_install_upgrade.html#upgrade-windows

I'd love it if we had an option to specify an Amazon S3 bucket for cloud storage - that way users could handle their own storage.
since no cloud. I would suggest you to add import and export settings.
especially the portfolio and watch list to easy the data migration.
I agree with Simon, an import/export feature would be useful, preferably, but not necessarily encrypted, or supporting gpg/pgp key management.
In fact, even the export to a single xml file of everything (options, portfolio, etc.) would be VERY appreciated. up to the user to do whatever he wants with the final xml (email it, encrypt it, delete it) etc.
ideally, it would be exported as something such as:
jstock-201112011358.xml where what preceeds the file extension is a date+time tuplet.

I must disagree, we need an import/export option that will also handle every stock, formula, option, indices, portfolio, etc. in a single .xml file preferably (doesn't matter if it's 50MB, as far as I'm concerned).
copying the whole directory is cumbersome.
How about allow a user to leverage their Google Docs account, Box.Net account, dropbox account, Live account, etc?
